Brooklynne Mosley is an East Lawrence resident who works at GPS Impact as a Vice President of Mobilization and Advocacy. She volunteers and serves on local, regional, and statewide boards in her free time.
Brooklynne is originally from Kansas City and lived in Waldo until she was 9-years-old. She is the oldest child and grew up with a large extended maternal family. Her father's work eventually moved her family to Queens, New York, and South Suburban Chicago, Illinois.
While living in Illinois, Brooklynne got her first job working at her paternal grandmother Verdella's floral business around 14-years-old. When she worked with her grandmother on weekends, she and her sisters would wake up at 4 a.m. and work most of the day. Working with her grandma taught her a lot about how hard small business owners had to work to be successful.
Brooklynne joined the United States Air Force and enlisted as an aircrew member on the KC-10 aircraft. She deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. She separated in 2013 and moved to Lawrence to attend The University of Kansas.
Since moving to Lawrence, Brooklynne has been involved with political and community organizing. Through her work, Lawrence quickly transformed from a place she was living into a place she called home.
Brooklynne is running because the policies from the legislature leave many people in Lawrence behind. From housing to food, reproductive healthcare and childcare, this district is seeing friends and neighbors have to go to extra lengths to meet their needs. The state's inability to expand Medicaid has left the most vulnerable Kansans with few options to get the healthcare they need.
Policies that leave behind the most vulnerable amongst us burn through a community. Like 162 years ago, Lawrence can choose to stay in the char and ashes or rise together.
I am Brooklynne and I look forward to serving this community as your next State Representative in the 46th District.
